Are you a homeowner in Daytona? And would you like to enjoy the ease and dependability of ductless mini-split air conditioning? If so, you’ll have a decision to make: Where will you put your mini-split heads?
Right now, though, you might be thinking: Wait a minute! What is ductless mini-split air conditioning, anyway? And what’s a mini-split head?
Well, ductless mini-split AC is a system that’s really growing in popularity nowadays. Even so, many people haven’t learned much about it yet — if they’ve even heard of it at all! With that in mind, let’s look at how ductless mini-split AC works and how it could benefit you. Then we could discuss where to put those mini-split heads in your home.
Ductless Mini-Split AC: An Intro
To start with, ductless mini-split air conditioning is similar in some ways to central air conditioning. Both systems come with outdoor units as well as indoor units. The outdoor units contain a condenser and a compressor. Those devices help release heat into the air. Indoors, however, there’s a key difference between these two systems: the ducts.
Central AC comes with a web of ducts as well as a centralized blower fan. The blower fan sends cool air through the supply ducts, which are located in different rooms of a home. And every room with a supply duct also has a return duct. (Return ducts are larger than supply ducts.)
When cool air enters a room via a supply duct, it starts combining with the warmer air that’s already there. The return duct will suck in that mixture of cool and warm air. That way, the AC system can cool it down and then recirculate it.
With ductless mini-split AC, however, there are no ducts at all (as the name tells us). Instead, it provides you with a separate AC unit for every room that you want cooled.
Those AC units are called mini-split heads, and they’re relatively small. And each mini-split head contains a fan that spreads chilled air throughout a room.
Moreover, for maximum convenience, you can choose where each of your mini-split heads will go. Most often, they’re mounted to a wall or ceiling. But they could also be mounted to a floor or even positioned inside a ceiling.
The Benefits of Ductless AC
Ductless AC is gaining traction for good reason. For starters, it can make a home more energy-efficient. After all, as cool air travels through ducts, there’s usually a loss of energy. Mini-split heads, by contrast, won’t waste any power. And, when your home is conserving energy, your utility costs will go down.
Not to mention, AC ducts can quickly get dusty and dirty. But you won’t have to worry about cleaning ducts when you have a ductless system!
Plus, with ductless mini-split AC — unlike with central AC — different rooms can have different temperatures. Maybe one member of your household likes it freezing cold at night, and someone else prefers a warmer bedroom. With ductless AC, both of those preferences could be accommodated!
On top of all that, ductless air conditioning is quiet. It’s also a reliable system with a long lifespan. In short, it’s truly effective and enjoyable.
How Many Mini-Split Heads Would You Need?
Now that we’re a little familiar with ductless AC, let’s return to that all-important question: How many mini-split heads would your home need? Of course, the answer would depend on your personal preferences. However, it wouldn’t make sense to put a mini-split head in every interior space within your home. Doing so would waste energy and money.
Basically, any room where people spend lots of time each day should probably get a mini-split head. That list might include bedrooms, home offices, dens, your living room, and your kitchen.
On the other hand, if people rarely enter a certain room, you probably wouldn’t install a unit there. For example, maybe your attic and basement don’t get much usage, especially in the summertime. Likewise, bathrooms, storage rooms, walk-in closets, and corridors most likely wouldn’t need their own mini-split heads.
